Day 3 – Regina Beach Bicycle Touring Trip – Lumsden to Regina
Got up at 5:30 a.m. Left camp at 7 a.m. after “breakfast in bed”. Looked for a washroom in Lumsden but all businesses were closed. Cycling up the hill on the Old Highway 11, I was falling behind. To my amazement, Rob reached out, grabbed my handlebars and litterally pulled me up the hill. I even stopped pedaling for a portion to see if he could pull both of us, which he did.
I record in the journal: “Tendons and joints becoming very sore (especially knees and ankles). Tried to connect bikes with tarp strap. Too short.” Rob’s exercize regime (8 to 10 hours per week) and bike racing made his ride quite liesurely while he waited for me to keep up.
Cycled past the “north Superstore” (near Highway 11 and Pasqua Street) around 9:30 a.m. Biked down McCarthy Boulevard to the bicycle path. Rode through Wascana Park (along Wascana Creek). Had to bypass flooded bike path under Dewdney bridge and near Lewvan Drive. Ate snack in Waterfall Park. Unloaded the bikes at Rob’s house, took my bike racks off. After difficulty starting the old Datsun 1/4 ton, Rob drove me home. This was my last bike trip with Rob to date. I think it ended with a sense of relief as I went home to rest sore legs!
