Day 4 of 5
Woke up in the night hearing rain on the tent. Later in the morning the rain continued. Considering we had made good progress on the trip so far, had no definitive end date for the trip (we were aiming for roughly five days) and were tired from a hard paddle the day before, we deemed the day a rest/rain day. We slept in (8am for me, 10 – 11 am for Sarah). When the rain did not let up we hauled most of the gear into a nearby kitchen shelter. I read books in the kitchen shelter while Sarah slept. It rained lightly all morning.
Cooked bannock in the kitchen shelter on the double burner campstove. Phoned home for update. +14 C in Swift Current, according to mom’s report. Ate lunch.
In the afternoon the rain stopped and the sun came out, though it was till cool (maybe +18 C). Showered. Went for a hike in the late afternoon up the campground entrance road, took photos of native plants. We moved slow this day, our bodies in catch-up mode.
Even with the campground relatively full of campers, it felt like we had the campground mostly to ourselves, as most people must have been in their campers or away at work for the week.
Ate supper. Read books, relaxed. Went to bed early.
