About & Summary

One cold, winter evening I was scanning slides of canoe trips from the distant past, which led me to digging out the old journals/trip logs from those same trips. How could I combine the photos and journals? Scrapbook? No, not my thing. The idea for this weblog was born at that moment.

This site started as a means to combine past photo and trip logs/journals into a single form, and evolved to collect on-going photos and stories from trips since then. The site is not intended for a wide audience, it is mainly for my personal use. But if others incidentally find enjoyment or inspiration from it, that’s great!

This is primarily the space where I reflect on my passion to explore the outdoor world by self-propelled means. I may also digress to an occasional philosophical reflection or rant related to outdoor journeying.

Is there a Future for Canoe Tripping and Bicycle Touring??

2013 Year in Review – Paddling

2014 Year in Review – Paddling

The blog focuses primarily on past canoe and bicycle trips. I have tried backpacking a few times, but my preference is canoeing and bicycle touring so I will focus on these only. Backpacking has been ruled out mostly because of occasional back issues, trying to minimize the accumulation of gear and avoiding the higher cost of ultra-light gear. So I stick with day trips for backpacking. The beauty of cycling and canoeing is you don’t have to haul any gear on your back and you can make do with lower cost, heavier gear.

I am from the Saskatchewan prairies and consider that the starting point (home base) from which the journeys expand outward. Therefore the blog will cover journeys both through and beyond the Canadian prairies. I now live in Southern Alberta where the prairies transition to the foothills of the Rockies. I hope to add more with future journeys to come. Enjoy!
